About
Rio Bravo Farms, located in El Paso County’s beautiful lower valley, is a family-run and operated pecan farm that produces some of the best quality pecans on the market. Although you can find commercially grown pecans in 15 states, this little stretch from El Paso County, TX, through Mesilla County, NM, yields some of the best quality meats and pecan kernels in the country. The unique, warm, and sunny weather provides a perfect habitat for pecans to grow. Our primary cultivars are Western Schley and Wichita—known as the “bread and butter of the west.”
K.B. Ivey, who first established Rio Bravo Farms in 1952, came from California to purchase land in the alluvial valley of far west Texas. The mesquite and greasewood-covered land required extensive work to become fertile and farmable acres. The farm originally produced pima cotton, but in 1974, the long process of planting a commercial pecan orchard began. The process took approximately 33 years to finish.
Now owned and operated by Art Ivey and his sons, the farm holds a rich history spanning four generations: a story of how the Ivey family worked to build the farm into what it is today. As we remember our past, we are excited to look to the future and embrace the next step in our journey as a company that brings our pecans directly from the land we nurture to your hands and your home table.
Let us share with you a bit of our own west Texas magic, made in-house from our home-grown pecans.
